About me

Over the past decade I’ve explored how we learn and grow and how we can discover and create the conditions for this to happen.

Through my own experience and that of friends, colleagues and clients, I’ve become a firm believer in the power of learning to improve wellbeing. Read my personal work and wellbeing story here.

As a trained occupational therapist with a Masters in occupational science, my focus is always on the unique, dynamic interaction between you, what you do, and the people, places and spaces around you.

In Explore Work, this means we look at how the work you do is influenced by what you bring (for example your learning and communication style) and by your environment (such as your colleagues and work culture).

Occupational therapists are health and behaviour change specialists. We use coaching, training and a practical, solution-focused approach to create wellbeing with you, through what you do.

I also have a background in social anthropology, organisational change and service design (part of human-centred design).

These fields teach us to see our everyday lives from a fresh perspective and give us tools to experiment with new ways of working.

With Explore Work, I’m bringing these disciplines plus experience of facilitating adult education together, to support you to create sustainable change. Not only in you, but in your organisation too.

Wellbeing at work matters

I founded Explore Work because despite working in professions that enabled wellbeing, behaviour change, learning and development, I saw how my colleagues and myself weren’t always given (and didn’t give ourselves) that same care and investment.

I witnessed and experienced the impact of this first-hand; frustration, stress, anxiety, physical ill-health, burn out. It also left us with less to give to our friends, families and communities.

It had an impact on our organisations and those we served too. From not having time to contribute to our full potential, to becoming disengaged, even leaving, taking our ideas, skill, and energy with us.

But I’ve also experienced the opposite. I’ve done my best work, had the most fun and grown in confidence with managers and peers who supported and believed in me, working in environments that challenged and nurtured me.

My wellbeing is directly linked to my ability to learn, develop and grow through work. To learn about my craft and about myself.

The fun and excitement of exploring opens up a world of wonder, light and possibility that fundamentally shifts my approach not just to work, but to my whole life.

Work can be really tough when we aren’t getting the support, whether from people or our organisation’s systems, that we personally need to do and feel our best.

While discovering and creating our own conditions to thrive can be challenging and take time, I’ve found the process of doing this inspiring, empowering and worth the effort.
